Care Guide

Caring for your Moalie items

At Moalie, we believe that quality can last for years when treated with care. Our natural materials, like merino wool and cashmere, require a different approach than standard baby clothes.

Immediately ready for use

A frequently asked question is whether our clothing needs to be washed before first use. Based on my experience in neonatology, my advice is that this isn't necessary for our wool products .

Because our fibers are pure and untreated with harsh chemicals, the clothing can touch baby's skin directly. This preserves the wool's natural softness and self-cleaning properties from the very first moment.

The power of nature

Wool naturally contains lanolin (wool fat). This makes the clothing:

  • Self-cleaning: Often just airing out in the fresh morning air is enough to refresh the fibres.
  • Antibacterial: Dirt has less chance of penetrating the fibre.

Washing and care

If you do need to wash an item, do so carefully:

  1. Use a special wool detergent.
  2. Wash by hand or on a cold wool program (maximum 30 degrees).
  3. Let the items dry flat on a clean towel to maintain their shape. Never use the dryer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I treat a stain without washing the entire item?

Because wool is dirt-repellent, stains often don't penetrate the fiber immediately. Gently dab away the stain with a damp cloth and a small amount of wool detergent. Avoid rubbing, as this can damage the fiber.

My wool item smells like 'sheep', is that normal?

Yes, this is actually a sign of the purity of the material. The scent comes from the natural lanolin. This scent diminishes as the item is aired, but it confirms that you have an untreated, natural product in your hands.

What should I do if pilling occurs?

Pilling is a natural characteristic of high-quality wool when worn for the first few times. You can easily and safely remove these lumps with our special wool comb . By carefully combing the wool with this comb, you restore the smooth fiber structure without damaging it.

Can I iron the clothes?

Ironing is generally unnecessary if you lay the items flat to dry. If you do want to do so, use the lowest setting (wool setting) and place a damp cloth between the iron and the garment.
