FAQs

From birth. Merinowool is suitable for newborns, including premature babies, provided the fibers are fine enough and the garment fits well without tight elastics or pressure points.

Yes. That is precisely one of the strong qualities of merino wool. The fiber can absorb up to about 35 percent of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet. The moisture is drawn away from the skin and released again through evaporation. As a result, the skin stays drier than with cotton or synthetic fabrics.

With merino wool, the fiber thickness says a lot about the comfort. It is measured in microns: the lower the number, the finer and softer the wool feels. For babies, fibers of approximately 15 to 19 microns are usually used.

For Moalie products, we exclusively select fine merino wool that is gentle on sensitive baby skin.

That depends on the situation. Cotton is comfortable in warm temperatures and is often more affordable. Merinowool naturally regulates temperature and wicks moisture. This makes it especially suitable in the first months, during sleep, and in changing temperatures. Many parents combine both materials.

Merinowool can shrink if it is not washed properly. Therefore, we recommend hand washing merinowool clothing with a special wool detergent and cold or lukewarm water. Not every washing machine has a reliable wool wash program. Afterwards, lay the garment flat to dry so it retains its shape.

Why merino wool is so suitable for babies

Onderweg met Baby | Merinowol Kinderwagen & Autostoel Accessoires – Moalie

On the go, everything is just a bit more unpredictable. Temperatures fluctuate, trips last longer than planned, and your baby has no control over what’s happening around them. Newborn babies don’t yet regulate their body temperature independently — they depend on what’s directly around them.

The products in this collection are here to support that. Not with extra stimuli, but with materials that regulate, cocoon, and provide calm. So that on the go is simply on the go.

Merinowool — RWS certified OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Temperature-regulating in both directions Designed from neonatology experience

Why material matters even more on the go

At home, you have control over the environment. In the car, stroller, or plane, you don’t. Temperatures change quickly, and a baby who is too warm or too cold will show it — but can’t say why.

Merinowool is the only material that regulates in both directions: it keeps warm when it’s cool, and breathes when the environment warms up. It absorbs moisture without feeling wet. That makes it fundamentally different from synthetic foam, fleece, or cotton padding.

In neonatology, we saw daily how strongly babies respond to what lies directly against their skin. On the go, it’s no different — the material around a baby is always working, whether you see it or not.

What you’ll find in this collection

Wool Liners

Merinowool liners for car seats and strollers. Temperature-regulating, breathable, and soft — even on longer trips. Artisanally made in a family business in the EU.

Merinowool Blankets

Light enough for the stroller, warm enough for cooler days. A Merinowool blanket doesn’t trap too much heat and stays soft after every use.

Snuggle Cocoon

Cocoon for the first weeks. The Snuggle Cocoon gives a newborn baby a sense of closeness — even in the stroller or car seat. Made of Merinowool, with the softness that only a wool blend provides.

What makes wool suitable for on the go

Synthetic materials insulate — they retain temperature in both directions. Wool breathes. The fiber absorbs moisture and releases it gradually, keeping the space directly around your baby stable. In a closed car or stroller with a canopy, that is the difference between a calm and a restless ride.

Merinowool also does not pick up odors like synthetic fabrics do. Airing after use is sufficient in most cases — the products in this collection are made to last long, not to be washed often.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. That is exactly what surprises many parents. Merinowool is not an insulating material but a breathable fiber that regulates in both directions. In summer, it keeps your baby cooler than synthetic foam or polyester — especially in a heated car or enclosed stroller.

No. Merino fibers are finer than 20 microns — they bend with the skin instead of pressing against it. That is the fundamental difference with regular wool. Even babies with sensitive skin or eczema generally tolerate Merinowool well.

Wool is naturally self-cleaning and odor-resistant. Airing after use is sufficient in most cases. For stains: use the wool program at max. 30°C or hand wash with a mild wool detergent. Lay flat to dry, never use a dryer.

Yes. All products in the On the Go collection are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified — tested for harmful substances. The wool is RWS certified (Responsible Wool Standard). The collection is developed with specific attention to the properties of newborn skin and the thermoregulation system of babies in the first months.

The wool liner fits directly into the seat and regulates the temperature from below. You use the blanket as an extra layer on top. The Snuggle Cocoon is suitable for babies in the first weeks who need extra wrapping — it fits in most strollers and provides a sense of closeness even when you are not nearby.
