Daniëlle Kempers, neonatal nurse
"In the NICU, I see babies who sleep for hours on end — and babies who startle awake every twenty minutes. The difference often lies in small details: too warm, too cold, a rough seam, a fabric that doesn’t breathe. I designed this outfit because I know what a baby needs to truly relax."

No — and this is exactly why merino wool is different from other wool. It naturally regulates body temperature: in summer, it dissipates heat instead of retaining it. Your baby won’t overheat. One outfit, all year round.

A (woolen) romper is usually sufficient.

Layering works best — this way you can easily adjust to the temperature.

If it’s really cold, place a woolen blanket over your baby.

For newborns, a woolen hat is often a good idea: they still regulate most of their heat through their head.

Merinowool is naturally more precious than cotton or polyester — that is a fair fact.

On the other hand, the outfit lasts for months, hardly needs washing, and does not require a separate summer or winter version.

For the first six months of your baby, this is the only sleep suit you will need.

Warmer than a blanket. Softer than you expect.

A baby who sleeps well is a baby who feels safe. Not too warm, not too cool — just right. That is what merinowool does, and what no synthetic material can imitate.

This sleeping bag is made of 100% merinowool in a soft teddy texture, but then in a shaped sleeping bag for the very little ones. Airy and soft on the outside, cozy on the inside.

No TOG. But temperature regulation.

Sleeping bags made of synthetic materials and cotton have a fixed TOG value: one blanket for summer, another for winter. Merinowool works differently. It adapts: it dissipates heat when your baby gets warm, and insulates when it’s cold. One sleeping bag. Usable all year round.

As a neonatal nurse, I see how important temperature regulation is for a newborn baby. Newborns cannot yet regulate their own temperature well. Merinowool takes over much of that.

Made by a family who knows wool from the inside out

This sleeping bag is made by a family business in Eastern Europe — a region with a long tradition in wool processing. For two generations, this family has handcrafted wool products, without synthetic fibers, without compromising on quality.

What sets them apart: they work exclusively with 100% pure wool, and every product is finished as it should be: with attention to detail you feel as soon as you hold it. The wool is certified through the 'Human Friendly ECO' program, which after extensive testing confirms that the fibers are completely natural and free of synthetic additives. Also REACH certified, and Woolmark certification is pending.

For Moalie, this was exactly the partner we were looking for: a company where craftsmanship and integrity are not marketing terms, but simply the way they work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What TOG value does this sleeping bag have?

Merinowool has no fixed TOG value. That is precisely the advantage: wool adapts to your baby’s temperature. If it gets warmer, it dissipates heat. If it gets cooler, it insulates. You don’t need separate summer and winter sleeping bags.

Does merinowool itch?

No. Merinowool has extremely fine fibers that bend with the skin instead of pricking. The teddy texture of this sleeping bag adds an extra layer of softness.

Can I use this sleeping bag all year round?

Yes. Thanks to the temperature-regulating properties of merinowool, this is a sleeping bag for all seasons. It breathes in summer and keeps warm in winter.

How do I wash the sleeping bag?

Wool is naturally self-cleaning and needs little washing. Air the sleeping bag regularly. If washing is needed: wool wash program at max 30°C with wool detergent, do not spin dry, dry flat.

From the NICU to your baby's nursery

"Every time I stand next to a cradle, I think: who came up with this?"

After 28 years in the NICU, I see it again and again: babies dressed in clothing with stiff seams, synthetic materials, outfits that barely allow them to move.

Outfits that are perfect for a photo — but completely lack comfort.

That difference is the sole reason Moalie exists.
