Daniëlle Kempers, neonatal nurse
"In my work in neonatology, I see daily how important temperature regulation is for newborns. Merino wool is the only natural material that does this naturally — without you having to do anything. I designed this blanket as I would want every baby to have it."

This is the question I get asked most often, and I completely understand it.

We are used to thinking that warm means thick.

With merino wool, it works differently.

The fiber naturally contains small air channels that retain heat and wick away moisture.

This means your baby stays warm without sweating or overheating. A thin merino blanket keeps your baby more comfortable than a thick fleece blanket—precisely because it breathes.

In neonatology, breathable and lightweight always take precedence over thick and synthetic.

Wool requires less washing than you might think.

Thanks to the lanolin in the fiber, it largely cleans itself — airing after use is often enough.

You also don’t need to pre-wash the blanket before first use; that is only necessary with cotton.

If you do wash the blanket: hand wash or use the wool program on your machine at a maximum of 30°C, with a mild wool detergent without enzymes.

Do not tumble dry. Lay flat to dry, away from direct sunlight.

I understand that, and it’s a good question.

What people often experience as "wool itching" is a reaction to coarse fibers of regular wool, not to wool as a material.

Merino fibers are much finer and do not irritate the skin in the same way.

A true allergy to lanolin — the natural grease in wool — does exist but is rare.

If you’re unsure: let your baby briefly come into contact with the blanket and observe how the skin reacts.

If a lanolin allergy is known, I recommend consulting your doctor first.

The Pointelle blanket is designed with the knowledge of a nurse and the love of a parent.
Made from Oeko-Tex-certified, mulesing-free merino wool , known for its exceptional softness and temperature-regulating properties. The wool is breathable, feels airy, and keeps your baby at the perfect temperature—in any season.

What makes this blanket special is its ease of use. Unlike most wool blankets, it's machine washable. We tested it ourselves: a 30°C wool wash with a gentle spin cycle, and the blanket retains its beautiful shape and softness.

The refined pointelle knit creates an airy texture and an elegant look. And with a generous size of 75 x 100 cm , the blanket is large enough to also use as a wrap—in the stroller, baby sling, or simply at home on the sofa.

  • 100% merino wool — Oeko-Tex certified and mulesing-free

Often, just airing it out is sufficient thanks to the self-cleaning properties of merino wool.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this blanket really be machine washed?
Yes. The wool has been thoroughly tested at 30°C with a standard spin cycle. The blanket retains its shape and softness as long as you use an enzyme-free wool detergent.

Is the blanket suitable from birth?
Absolutely. Merino wool supports newborns' natural temperature sense and prevents overheating or cooling.

Why is this blanket larger than standard?
At 75 x 100 cm, it offers greater comfort and versatility — perfect as a wrap, in the stroller, or for wrapping your baby after a bath.

From the NICU to your baby's nursery

"Every time I stand next to a cradle, I think: who came up with this?"

After 28 years in the NICU, I see it again and again: babies dressed in clothing with stiff seams, synthetic materials, outfits that barely allow them to move.

Outfits that are perfect for a photo — but completely lack comfort.

That difference is the sole reason Moalie exists.
