Doesn’t the little hat keep slipping off?

No. It gently hugs the head and stays in place. Around four to six weeks, most babies outgrow it in size.

Can my baby sleep in it?

Not indoors. Babies lose a great deal of heat through their heads, and wearing a hat can make them too warm. Remove the hat when your baby sleeps indoors, and use it outdoors or in a cool room.

Isn’t cotton too thin for a newborn?

No. Cotton provides enough warmth during the first few weeks without causing your baby to overheat. If it’s cold outside, choose a wool hat.

Can I take this hat to the hospital?

Yes. It’s lightweight and compact, so it fits easily in your hospital bag. Check in advance whether you’re allowed to use your own hat on that ward.

How do I know whether my baby is warm enough?

Feel the back of the neck or between the shoulder blades, not the hands or feet. These almost always feel cooler on a newborn, even when the rest of the body is comfortably warm.

Hand-wash in lukewarm water with a mild, fragrance-free detergent. Gently squeeze out excess water; do not wring, and dry flat away from direct sunlight. Do not use fabric softener or tumble-dry.

Over dit product

Soft cotton hat with a bow in taupe. It fits snugly around the head without pinching and helps your baby retain heat during the first few weeks.

Retaining heat from the very first hour

A newborn cannot yet regulate its own body temperature. A baby only learns to do this over the course of the first few weeks. Until then, warmth must come from outside: from you, a blanket, or a hat.

The head plays a major role in this. A newborn's head is large in proportion to the rest of its body, making it one of the areas where heat is lost most quickly. A hat in that first hour after birth therefore makes more of a difference than you might think.

A hat that stays in place

Many baby hats are just a little too loose. They slip over the eyes or slide off as soon as your baby moves.

This model fits snugly around the head and stays where it belongs, without leaving marks on the skin. The bow on the side is a decorative detail, not a fastener.

Cotton for the first weeks

Soft cotton breathes and provides warmth without insulating too much. This is exactly what a newborn needs in a nursery, at the hospital, or during a first walk, where the temperature can vary from one day to the next.

Taupe in real life

A warm, grey-brown shade. Calm and neutral, making it pair beautifully with ecru, sand, and natural tones.
