From when can my baby wear the hat?
Our size S is specifically designed for use from birth. Maternity nurses recommend packing a well-fitting hat made of natural materials in your travel suitcase, as a newborn loses most of its heat through its head.

Doesn't the wool itch on the sensitive scalp?
Absolutely not. We use only high-quality merino wool with a very fine fiber. This is much softer than regular wool and feels silky smooth, even for babies with very sensitive skin or just starting to develop their first downy hairs.

How can I be sure I choose the right size?
Size S (0-6 months) fits most babies from birth to around five months. Thanks to the wide, fold-over brim, the hat grows with your baby. Not sure between two sizes? For newborns, we always recommend Size S for the safest and most secure fit.

Isn't merino wool too warm for summer?
This is a common misconception. Merino wool is an active fiber that reacts to body temperature. It keeps your baby warm in winter and cool and breathable in summer. Therefore, it's the ideal material year-round.

Do I need to wash the hat before first use?
Because our merino wool is 100% untreated and Oeko-Tex certified (free from harmful substances), washing before first use isn't necessary. Many mothers enjoy infusing the hat with the scent of home by leaving it in the baby's room for a while.

Why is merino wool more sustainable than cotton?
Merino wool lasts for generations, is biodegradable, and requires far less washing. This saves water and energy, and maintains its quality for years to come, perfect for any future generations.

Our pure merino wool and cashmere are so pure that they don't need to be washed before first use. The natural lanolin provides self-cleaning properties; often, a quick airing outside in the crisp morning air is enough to refresh the fibers.

The baby bonnet that truly fits snugly — from day one

Beige is the color of calm. Of softness. Of those first days at home, where everything is still new and your baby is gently getting to know the world. This merino wool bonnet fits right into that — literally and figuratively.

Why merino wool — and not something else

In my years working in neonatology, I saw the same thing time and again: babies who got too warm in synthetic bonnets, or who were restless even when nothing seemed to be wrong. Often, it was the material. Merino wool does something that no synthetic material can: it reacts to your baby's body.

The head is the largest heat-loss surface for a newborn. Therefore, a good bonnet isn't just an accessory — it's a part of how your baby feels.

What makes this bonnet different

  • Adjustable brim — the wide brim is folded and can be adjusted to fit your baby’s head. As a result, one size lasts much longer.
  • Thermoregulating — merino wool keeps you warm in the cold and breathes in the heat. The head stays at the right temperature, without overheating.
  • Non-itchy — premium merino wool feels soft against the most sensitive skin. No irritation, no red marks, no crying because of the bonnet.
  • Self-cleaning — the natural lanolin in the wool repels dirt. Wash less, enjoy for longer.
  • OEKO-TEX certified — tested for harmful substances. Safe for your newborn's skin.

L 1–3 years approx. 46–52 cm

Care

Wash on a wool or hand-wash cycle, max. 30°C. Do not tumble dry. Dry flat on a towel. When used correctly, merino wool rarely needs washing — airing it out is often sufficient.

Combine with the beige collection

This bonnet is part of the beige merino line. Combine it with the matching newborn booties, baby booties, sleepsuit and the merino cardigan — all in the same color, all made of the same material.

Frequently asked questions

My baby has sensitive skin. Is this bonnet suitable?

Yes. Premium merino wool is naturally hypoallergenic and feels soft — even on the most sensitive baby skin. It cannot be compared to regular wool.

How do I know which size I need?

For newborns, we recommend size S. Thanks to the adjustable brim, the bonnet also fits slightly smaller or larger heads. When in doubt: choose the smallest size that fits.

How often should I wash this bonnet?

Merino wool is naturally self-cleaning. Airing it out in between uses is often enough. Only wash when absolutely necessary, using a gentle wool or hand-wash cycle at max. 30°C.

Does this bonnet match other Moalie products?

Yes — the bonnet was designed as part of the beige merino line. It combines perfectly with the matching booties, sleepsuit, and cardigan.

Founder Note

"I don't believe in fleeting trends or the abundance of plastic in the nursery. Our collection was born from a practical need: items that do what they're supposed to do, without compromising your child's health.

Natural fibers are key here. Synthetic materials often seal against the skin, while merino wool and cashmere breathe and regulate temperature. This prevents overheating and irritation, which is essential for healthy sleep.

No harmful chemicals, no unnecessary details, and no flashy colors. Only the finest materials that last for years and retain their value. Honest textiles that contribute to a healthy start, without any fuss.
