The Butterfly Beanie is made from high-quality French Terry. This soft, lightly textured cotton fabric has a smooth outside and a soft looped inside — exactly the combination that feels so gentle against a newborn’s sensitive skin. French Terry breathes well, has just enough stretch, and keeps its shape even after multiple washes.

From my years in neonatology, I know how quickly a newborn loses heat — and how important the head is in this. A newborn’s thermoregulation system is still immature. This means a well-fitting hat is not just a sweet accessory but also practical support in the first weeks.

The handmade collection was not created behind a screen. It was conceived at a table, with fabric between the fingers, by someone who has worked for decades at renowned international children’s brands as a creative director and head designer.
Together with his wife — a graphic designer — he creates small, carefully curated collections for Moalie. Handmade in the Netherlands. In limited editions. Each piece crafted with the calm and precision that reflects what Moalie believes: that the first months of life deserve the finest care.
No mass production. No compromises. Only pieces to cherish — and pass on.

Orders within the Netherlands are usually shipped within 1–2 business days shipping. For Belgian orders, this may take a little longer.
You can return items within 14 days in accordance with EU law. Items must be unworn and unwashed.
Merinowool is self-cleaning and does not need to be washed often. If washing is necessary, hand wash is preferred, and lay flat to dry. (Read here our blog about washing wool)
